Myth “What type of slings are better for lifting operations!”
Good afternoon
We noticed that clients quite often, when contacting us, ask the question - what would you recommend to take, they say, I don’t know what is better, more reliable - to buy a sling made of textile tape, steel rope or even a lifting chain.
And we will answer!
Firstly, we cannot say that a certain type of sling is better than another (for example, a rope loop sling is a priori better than a similar one made from textiles). In principle, all manufactured slings comply with Ukrainian (DSTU B.V.-10-98) and European standards (EN-818-2004) and fully meet the characteristics specified in passports and on tags.
The main nuance is the specificity of the load and lifting conditions. Based on the dimensions and methods of slinging, you can already determine which sling is best to use.
For example, textile slings are used when lifting delicate loads, where it is important to maintain the coverage of the lifted load - lifting yachts, etc. In turn, textile slings are “afraid” of sharp corners - if you do not use protective covers, such an angle will easily “cut” the sling even at its nominal value.
Rope slings are more unpretentious to loads. They are made by crimping or braiding the ends of ropes. Both manufacturing methods are reliable and are used depending on the wishes of the customers. And only if you lower the load to the ground and pull out the rope slings from under the load, then we suggest you take braided slings - in the case of crimping, the aluminum sleeve will quickly wear out and the slings will become unusable.
Chain slings, made from a special lifting chain with strength class 8, are a reliable, wear-resistant tool for lifting work. The warranty period provided for this type of sling is 12 months! The advantages include compactness, lighter weight compared to a rope analogue, and the possibility of use in foundries.
Summarizing the above, it is difficult to single out a favorite from the different types of slings. They are all equally reliable, and only the characteristics of the cargo and operating conditions can influence your choice!
