Wire rope slings
Wire Rope Slings: Reliability and Strength in Lifting
What are wire rope slings?
Wire rope slings made from steel cables are a classic and the most widely used load-lifting tool for lifting operations. They are manufactured using two main methods: traditional manual splicing of the rope and aluminum sleeve swaging. Both methods ensure secure loop fixation and product durability.
Manufacturing methods of wire rope slings
-
Splicing — manual formation of loops by intertwining the rope strands, providing flexibility and ease of use.
-
Sleeve swaging — inserting the rope end into an aluminum sleeve followed by pressing, guaranteeing high strength and stability of the construction.
The choice of method depends on the type of sling and customer requirements. For slings types SKP (USK1) and SKK (USK2), both technologies or their combination are possible, while for 1SK, 2SK, 4SK, the swaging method is primarily used for more reliable thimble fixation.
Types and varieties of wire rope slings
-
SKP (sleeve) — wire rope eye sling (USK1), made by aluminum sleeve swaging.
-
SKP (splicing) — wire rope eye sling with loops formed manually.
-
SKK (sleeve/splicing) — endless sling (USK2), made by either manual splicing or swaging.
-
1SK — single-leg sling with hook, made by swaging.
-
2SK — double-leg sling with two legs and a lifting ring, which can be detachable or oval.
-
4SK — four-leg sling, known as a "spider," with four legs and a load link.
-
4SKP — four-leg wire rope eye sling with a load link.
-
WL (wire legs) — wire rope legs with different modifications: Hook-Hook, Hook-Loop, Loop-Free end, and others.
Applications of wire rope slings
Wire rope slings are widely used in various fields:
-
Industry: lifting and moving loads in manufacturing, warehouses, and assembly sites.
-
Construction: moving building materials, assembling structures and equipment.
-
Maritime sector: cargo handling in ports, shipyards, and vessels.
-
Oil and gas industry: drilling, extraction, and transportation of oil and gas.
-
Energy sector: installation and maintenance of power lines and equipment at power plants.
Advantages of wire rope slings
-
Strength and reliability: ideal for lifting heavy loads, withstand high stresses.
-
Wear resistance: long service life even under intensive use.
-
Gradual failure: wear becomes noticeable early, allowing timely replacement.
-
Safety: ensure stability and reliability during lifting operations.
-
Wide range of types: optimal sling can be chosen for different tasks and conditions.
-
Cost-effectiveness: lower cost compared to chain slings makes them popular among metal bases and construction companies.
